Let's Get Back Dancing

GDC believe in teaching technique to a high standard, allowing every pupil (of every age and level) to develop each dance and style to it's fullest potential. Our aim is to give our pupils all the tools they need to feel that they not only can do the steps, but can perform the individual movement of each dance.

WE TRAIN THE FUTURE STARS

All our team are qualified, insured, DBS Checked and qualified in first aid

Karen

Principal

Owner and founder of GDC School of Dancing.

ISTD & UKA Licentiate

Adjudicator

"Karen has infinite patience and belief in her pupils, no matter what their age or ability. She always manages to get the best out of you - even if you originally thought you couldn't do something!" Julie

Karen has produced and coached many couples who made it into The British Ballroom Team, and rank highly in the National League. And also had couples feature on ITV's 'This Morning's Baby Ballroom: The Championship'.

Karen continues to create dancers who rank highly in the country and produces many winners and finalists of Champions of Tomorrow, Stars of the Future, and achieving many Teacher's Awards, including 'Britain's Best Teacher'

Emma

Vice Principal

UKA Associate

"Emma is the best dance teacher in the world, her lovely smile makes the class shine" Hannah

Emma began at age 3, and has a background of Ballet, Formation, Tap, Modern Jazz and Freestyle. Emma has performed in theaters and TV Shows. Including "Strictly Comes Dancing - It Takes Two" and on "Australian Princess".

Deciding to follow in her parents' footsteps, she competed successfully in Ballroom and Latin; junior ranking in the top 12 of the EADA charts. Later leading onto Stars of the Future finals and winning the ISTD Grand Finals.

From 16, Emma worked as a student teacher at GDC, choreographing her own dance show. She qualified as a professional with the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing and Kindred Arts (UKA), in 2008, teaching full time at Lenham Dance Studio and weekly at the University of Kent for their Ballroom Society.

In her career, she has choreographed for pupils to dance with Bruce Forsyth on 'The Paul O'Grady Show' and for a piece on 'Everybody Dance Now'. She has also worked as a performer and entertainer at Disneyland Paris.

However, her focus is on producing talented, competitive dancers. One of Emma's proudest achievements was, at just 23, winning a 1st place Teacher's Award at Champions of Tomorrow.

Antony

Co-founder of GDC School of Dancing.

ISTD & UKA Licentiate

Karen and Antony Day teamed up in 1977 following a “Partner Wanted” advert placed in the Dance News. They started their competitive careers as Juniors becoming British Intermediate champions aged 16 and progressed through to the Adult ranks where they achieved the ranking of 24 in the British Amateur League Table.

They competed at international level all over Europe. They toured (what was then) Yugoslavia representing Ireland in a showcase of ballroom dancing competitions and exhibition dances as well as choreographing and starring in a Eurythmics video (Do You Want To Break Up?).

After taking a break from dancing to start their family, Karen and Antony started Grafty Dance Club (in nearby Grafty Green) as a fun club to introduce dancing to local children and adults.

In 1996 Tony & Karen turned professional and qualified as Teachers with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD).

James

UKA Associate & Fitsteps Instructor

James has been with us since he was a pupil at 6 years old and is the most recent to join our Teaching team.
